Competitions and dual enrollment: when to involve your school

Work out whether you can enter independently or need a teacher, school team, or counselor’s approval.

01

Entering a competition

  1. Read the official rules for individual entry, team size, a school sponsor, nomination, and regional qualification. Requirements vary by competition.
  2. If school involvement is required, share the official rules and dates with the relevant teacher before registering.
  3. Confirm entry fees, travel, supervision, equipment, and who submits the final application.

Asking about dual enrollment

OpenList offers preparation guidance, not enrollment or a guarantee of school credit.

  1. Ask your counselor which colleges have an agreement with your school and whether you qualify.
  2. Confirm how the course counts toward high school graduation and whether college credit transfers to institutions you are considering.
  3. Check tuition, books, transport, technology, permission forms, placement requirements, and withdrawal deadlines with the school and college.
